Vienna and Bodø exchange on circularity

As part of CityLoops’ upscaling activities Vienna (Austria) visited Bodø (Norway) to see if it can replicate some of the work the Norwegian city has done in its own context. During the study visit Vienna and Bodø had the opportunity to discuss different aspects of urban circularity, exchange about circular transformation and attend a panel discussion on material flows.

The visit helped Vienna gain insight into how it can apply circularity in practice, and get a better understanding of how Bodø’s first marketplace for the reuse of materials works. At the same time the Austrian city spread the word about its own circular activities, especially in relation to construction and it circular strategyDoTank Circular City Wien 2020-2030.

Within CityLoops, Bodø’s circular actions focus on encouraging the circular reuse and repurposing of construction & demolition waste (CDW), as well as citizen and stakeholder participation. This all happens with the context of a major urban transformation. An old military airport is being demolished and a new part of the city will be built in the area cleared. In another area, a new airport will be built.
