CityLoops website wins EUrid Web Award

The CityLoops website has won the .eu Web Award under the “Better World” category. The jury noted that the website has “simple design, is easy to navigate, adopts the standards of accessibility, aggregates the information in a logical way” and that there is “consistency throughout the different elements and pages of the website.” The “Better World” category is for websites that represent green initiatives and environmentally-friendly organisations. The two other shortlisted websites were smartagrihubs.eu and verterasa.eu.

The CityLoops project brings together seven European cities – Apeldoorn, Bodø, Mikkeli, Porto, Seville, Høje-Taastrup and Roskilde - to pilot a series of demonstration actions to close the loop of two of the most important waste streams in Europe: Construction and Demolition Waste, and Bio-waste. Their ultimate aim is to become circular cities in which no resource goes to waste, driving the transition to the circular economy. The CityLoops website is the main hub to learn about the project and its goals, the CityLoops cities and their demonstration actions, the resources produced as part of this journey, and further information on circularity in cities.

While the CityLoops website has been developed and operated by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the Award is an acknowledgement for the entire consortium. Throughout the project the cities and partners have been creating a lot of diverse content, from circularity assessments to academic papers, and from circular procurement guidelines to waste flow optimisation tools. The CityLoops website had to be created in a way that allows for the coherent and effective presentation of all this work.

The .eu Web Awards, which are hosted by EURid, highlight and celebrate the most effective and impactful .eu websites. In the first round, people from all over Europe can vote for the submitted websites. In the second round a jury reflects on the 18 remaining websites (there are six categories, in each category three websites are the final nomenes). The winners were announced during a special ceremony in Mechelen, Belgium on 17 November 2022. The six winners of this year (an overview of them can be found here)receive a trophy, an education package for website management, as well the grand prize – a marketing campaign with a budget of €5000.
