BUS-GoCircular develops frameworks for circular interventions
26 Jan 2023
The EU-funded BUS-GoCircular project has created a framework that aims to reduce the environmental impacts and life cycle costs connected to the construction sector. To do so, the framework identifies strategic circular economy interventions for each stage in the construction value chain, like designing out waste, and facilitating greater reuse of products and materials at the end of each service life.
Furthermore, by identifying which construction workers and professionals are needed to implement these circular economy strategies, the framework provides insights that can help develop the skilled workforce needed for a just, sustainable transition in the built environment.
Buildings have a significant impact on the environment throughout their lives, from their design to demolition. They are responsible for 40% of final energy consumption, about 50% of all extracted materials and 2.3 billion tons of waste per year in the EU.
The framework can be downloaded here. To learn more about the work of BUS-GoCircular, read their latest newsletter.
