New platform for circular economy interventions

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability has launched ICLEI Circulars, a new platform aiming to facilitate circular economy interventions at the local level. ICLEI Circulars works with cities around the world, contributing to their efforts to become sustainable cities through circular economy practices.

ICLEI Circular’s work ranges from raising awareness and political momentum on the urgency of shifting away from unsustainable consumption and production patterns, to designing policy approaches that address concrete, locally specific, challenges. Through its regional hubs (China Hub, Africa Hub, Europe Hub) it highlights the global dimension of its efforts.

Each hub has its own page on the platform highlighting its main priorities, its work within the ICLEI network and the cities leading the transition to sustainability. The European Circular Cities Declaration is given a prominent place at the Europe Hub, seeing it as an initiative that has helped build a “strong European community of practice.” Moreover, all the leading cities listed (Umeå, Porto, Florence, Ghent and Turku) in the European Hub are signatories of the Declaration.
